Необходимость реорганизации "Природы" в конце 1932 г. была вызвана рядом обстоятельств: журнал не отражал общего поворота советской наукн и, в частности, поворота Академии Наук СССР к социалистическому строительству, идеологические повиции журнала не были достаточно четкими и твердыми, профиль журнала был неясен, отделов в редакции не было, материал поступал стихийно и т. д. В основу реорганизации журнала были приняты следующие положения: а) "Природа" популяризирует современные достижения теоретического естествовнания в СССР и ва границей и освещает наиболее принципиальные проблемы техники и медицины; журнал разъясняет наиболее актуальные проблемы теоретического естествовнания, их научное значение и связь с социалистическим строительством; б) опираясь на авторов, стремящихся к овладению методом диалектического материализма, сплачивая вокруг себя естественников-материалистов и атеистов, наиболее передовых высококвалифицированных естественников-специалистов, "Природа" борется со всеми разновидностями идеализма, с реакционными теориями в науке, с враждебными марксизму-ленинизму направлениями в теоретическом естествознании; в) журнал рассчитан на научных работников и аспирантов следующих категорий: естественников, общественников и преподавателей естествовнания высших и средних школ; не снижая теоретического уровня журнала по сравнению с прошлым периодом, необходимо статьи излагать в такой форме, чтобы они были понятны естественникам-неспециалистам в трактуемой области; г) на ряду о печатанием эмпирического материала считать необходимым давать синтетические статьи, трактующие большие принципиальные, методологические проблемы; д) реферировать на страницах "Природы" возможно полно основную иностранную естественно-научную литературу. Три года выхода реорганизованной "Природа" были годами дальнейшей реконструкции Академии Наук СССР и углубления ее поворота к нуждам социалистического строительства, годами роста научно-исследовательских кадров СССР, углубления их культурных и научных интересов, подъема их материального благосостояния. В связи с втим выдвигается настоятельная потребность дальнейшей перестройки "Природы" в соответствии с новыми условиями. Эта перестройка в основном движется по руслу, намеченному три года назад. В текущем году будет усилен раздел неорганических наук, развертывается отдел географии, расширяется отдел истории и философии естествознания. Редакция ставит себе целью давать читателю быструю, обширную и разностороннюю информацию о новостях науки, о жизни отечественных и иностранных научно-исследовательских учреждений. В помощь научному работнику редакция намечает давать в каждом номере журнала критические разборы новых естественно-научных сочинений, рефераты иностранных публикаций, пространные обзоры всех наиболее значительных естественно-научных журналов советских и заграничных, широкую библиографию естественно-научных изданий на русском и иностранных языках. Соответственно реконструируется техника издания "Природы". Общий объем журнала доводится до 10 печатных листов, что дает возможность значительно расширить отделы, богаче представлен иллюстративный материал, лучше подобраны шрифты. Журнал рассчитан на научных работников и аспирантов: естественников и общественников, на преподавателей естествознания высших и средних школ. Журнал стремится удовлетворить вапросы всех, кто интересуется современным состоянием естественных наук, в частности широкие круги работников прикладного внания, сотрудников отраслевых институтов: физиков, химиков, растениеводов, животноводов, инженерно-технических, медицинских работников и т. д.
